One of the first huge news stories of 2026 was Ubisoft's company-wide restructure, which saw it spread its various studios across specific sub-divisions, as well as cancel or delay numerous projects.
To the surprise of many, Beyond Good & Evil 2 was not among the games affected. It was expected that it might be canned or put on ice given its protracted development, but that is not the case, and work on the elusive game continues.
The project's creative director, Fawzi Mesmar, has now made a statement about Ubisoft's situation over on LinkedIn.

"Thank you for everyone who has reached out to me over the past few days in regards to recent news at Ubisoft.
Myself, my team and our project Beyond Good and Evil 2 are unaffected by the recent changes. I would direct you to the official press release for more information around the latest organisational structure.
Needless to say, I am saddened by the cancellations that has affected my colleagues in other parts of Ubisoft and the industry. I urge everyone - myself included - to offer support whenever and however they can during these times.
We remain committed and focused on delivering a remarkable game for our players to enjoy."
Beyond Good & Evil 2 is approaching 20 years since it was first announced, an unusually long time for game production. It's been through many difficulties within that time, but it seems Ubisoft is determined to keep it moving.
Mesmar has been heading up the game since October 2024, so hopefully he's been able to get things more under control and heading in the right direction.

It's pretty strange how during all the cancelations last week this one survived and Ubisoft claimed that the game "remained a priority" for the company, despite being in development for almost 2 decades. I guess it's not that much of a priority lol 😂
I'm so glad. The concept (if it remains the same) for the game is fantastic and there are really cool cultural blends in the world and art direction. It seemed like such an ambitious game that it might crumble beneath it's own weight, so I'm very pleasantly surprised to hear it's still alive. I have faith and am excited. Sometimes you just gotta be.
If Beyond good and Evil 2 comes out and doesn't change lives then I will call it a failure.
I'll be on my deathbed at a ripe old age and Beyond Good & Evil 2 still won't be out.
Imagine defending Ubisoft and thinking they still make ‘good games’ lol.
Yea, couldn't be me 😳
I look forward to playing the game on my PS9.
You have to wonder what will come first....a cure for cancer or Beyond Good and Evil 2. I'm sure it will be great on the PS15.
It has to be either a tax write off or money laundering scheme at this stage. Beyond Good & Evil 2 is sadly never coming out.
Nice! I'll look forward to playing this when it comes out at the same time as Half-Life 3!
It feels at this point like this game would need to surpass GTA V's lifetime sales to break even.
@Supern0va Beyond Good & Evil 2 confirmed as Steam Machine 3 launch game.
Considering how long the game has been in development, I'd argue that they haven't been very focused on the task at hand.
So, how.many times did they restart development on this thing? Becuase that would be the only way I can see why it would be in dev hell for this long. Or it is legitimately vaporware and exists in name only just su they can have tax adbagtages or something like that. In any case. Its ridiculous and I wonder how many are still interested in this project.
Nice to see Ubisoft prioritises projects the same way I did school work. I knew it was there, I knew I needed to do it, but I also knew I had other work to carry me through the year.
Loved the original game. Have zero hopes for todays ubisoft to not royally F it up.
It’s gutting that it’s taken almost two decades and IF it comes out in our life times, it won’t even address the bloomin’ cliffhanger ending of the first game. Bet we get a film before then.
"Myself, my team and our project Beyond Good and Evil 2 are unaffected by the recent changes."
They were probably unaffected b/c the people in charge of making all of these decisions probably weren't aware this game and this team were still an ongoing thing.
That's the only explanation really.😂
Beyond Good & Evil is one game I lost interest in ages ages ago because of what they want to make it. It was a lifeservice open world something. They lost me on that ages ago.
If they’re committed to still throwing money at this… what does that say about what they cancelled?
@species I’m the same. Replayed the original last year and it’s still a gem - but I simply don’t trust Ubisoft with its sequel. The last trailer (now 8.5 years old) was dreadful, showing none of the charm of the original game.
@Buizel Was that the trailer that was an absolute swear-fest? I remember seeing that. It was a bizarre change of tone from the original.
That was when I lost interest in the sequel. It felt like the development team wanted to make a GTA game or something and were forced to make Beyond Good and Evil 2 instead.
There is a Black Flag raised at Ubisoft, and everyone there needs to jump ship.
What's the point of keeping the "2" ? Who'd be left to fondly remember "1" by the time it comes out ? Not to mention it's actually a prequel...
Will be happy to play this along with Half Life 3, Zelda TP HD & Zelda WW HD Switch 2 Ports soon, lol
